It’s about time!

Remember those weave poles I was going to make for the Collies?
Then the car broke down and we were stranded for awhile?
(You can refresh your memory here!)
Well… after that the weave poles were kind of forgotten about for a little while.
But then they were remembered about just long enough for me to spend ages and ages at Home Depot with two Collies and my Mom.

Home Depot, Jan. 22 2013 (yes, I had those PVC pipes lying around for three months, whoops)

“Gimme that treat.”

Then the weather went back and forth between being snowy, muddy and warm. So the PVC pipes laid around, gathering dust, for a few months.
Until a few weeks ago, when the weather was nice and had been consistently, then my Mom and I finally got around to cutting the PVC pipe into appropriate sizes.

Then it snowed.

But over this past weekend the weather was lovely and I was ready to finally get these weave poles finished. Completely finished.

Saturday my Dad drilled holes in the PVC pipe caps so I could thread the stakes through them. I wanted to stake these weave poles into the ground rather than making a base for them for two reasons:
1) My first set of weave poles had a base made of PVC pipe and that worked out perfectly at our old home where we had a garage and a basement to stash them in when the wind got insane. However, once we moved to our current location, with no garage and no basement, the weave poles blew away long before Petal even arrived. Hopefully these ones won’t be going anywhere.
2) I think (and, again, hope) this will make them easier to pack up and move with.

My brother and Mom helped me hammer the stakes + bottom caps into the ground, then we added the poles + another cap on top, and some blue tape for visibility.

Voilà! Finally finished!

There are a total of 12 poles.

Petal is already practicing (so is Lassie and even Penny, but I don’t have any pictures of them).

At first I could tell by the look on her face that she thought I had gone completely nutty, but she’s already starting to grasp what’s going on here and I think she’s starting to have fun with it.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: More snow?!

Yesterday
 photo snowhead41613.png
He doesn’t look very impressed with the pile of snow my little sister put on his head, does he?

Today

P.S. What do you think of our new look?
Funny enough I changed the blog’s look because I didn’t want a snowy header anymore (I couldn’t change just the header, once I got going I couldn’t stop until it was all changed, haha), I wanted a fresh look. So I revamped the place during yesterday’s snow storm.
I have good timing, I know.

Swoon

Ladies,
brace yourselves.

Are you ready?

Are you sure?

Get ready to…

 photo swoon4913.png

swoon.

And yes, he’s single.
😉

He enjoys long walks around the neighborhood, chasing his tail, and hunkering down with a nice bully stick or a cold KONG at the end of a long day of marking his territory.
He also likes to snuggle.

April showers bring May flowers

Sunday night we had some loud, crazy, kinda scary, wind.
Then Monday it rained.
Today it snowed.
Yup, more snow!

Not much, just a light dusting, but that didn’t matter, Petal was still excited.
She kept leading me to the leashes, barking at me and then nudging the leashes with her nose.
Who could say no to that?
Not me, that’s for sure.

Today looks like this.

So I bundled up and took them outside.
Despite all the layers I wore, I still nearly froze (the wind was ice cold).
But it was worth it to watch them race around the yard.

Petal and Penny played “circle around the weird box thing that’s been here way longer than any of us have!”
Petal won, as always. Penny cried, as always.
She’s still not as fast as Petal.

Ignore the weeds. I gotta get those pulled.

They also played fetch…
 photo petalskips.png
I swear Petal knows how to skip. ;P

 photo ballpenpet4913.png

Okay, so Penny played fetch, Petal just ran along beside her.
Petal says it’s only fair to let Penny win at something. 😉

Look at those ears!

And what did Lassie do, you ask?
He poked around the yard a little, peeing here and there, but mostly he just followed me around, enjoying the wind,

and the camera. 😉

Now I’m ready for a nap.

Hot Chocolate and Emu

 photo goodmorningmug.png

I took Lassie for our usual one on one walk this morning. It’s a chilly, storm cloudy day today, so I took a mug of hot chocolate with me. 😉

 photo morningwalkhotcocoa.png
No hot chocolate for Lassie, but he did get some cheese for his modeling services.

This morning I decided to go a slightly different route rather than our routine one, because why not?
We walked down a street we’ve never been down before. We saw a man checking his mail with his very old dog by his side. I saw a Border Collie keeping a close eye on me and Lassie, who never saw him as far as I know. We saw chickens (who run really funny, by the way, like a kid who’s pants are falling down) and a horse or two and plenty of other dogs. But the most interesting animal we saw had to be these guys:

 photo whattheemu.png

I saw them and started taking pictures with my iPod. Lassie saw them, stared, and then went straight to the fence for a closer look.

 photo bigchickensemu.png

He didn’t bark or growl, he just stared at these strange giant birds.
Even still, I called him right back to me after he got a good look at them. I didn’t want him to make them mad and one of them seemed to be working up the nerve to approach him.

I think Emu is the strangest animal Lassie has ever seen.

Lassie wants to know, what’s the oddest animal you have ever seen?
