Making treats in just 500 easy steps!

Just kidding.
There aren’t 500 steps.
But today I did make the dogs some treats.
Treats that they are anxiously waiting to freeze.
Here’s what I did, but first note that…
It’s not really a recipe, just me grabbing things the dogs love, mixing it up, and stuffing it into a few Kongs. lol!
But here it is anyway.
Step 1: Find yourself at least one hungry pup.
Photobucket
This girl always has something on her nose.
Petal will do.
Though, please note, that she’s not a good food critic. She’ll eat just about anything you give to her and she always looks like this when something’s being made in the kitchen.
Anyway.
Step 2: Get the Kongs out.
Photobucket
Hopefully you don’t have more Kongs than you have dogs. I’m still not sure how I ended up with four Kongs when I only have three dogs.
Step 3: Gather together some Peanut Butter, Yogurt and Apple slices.
Photobucket
Oh, and don’t forget the Honey*.
*Honey not pictured because I forgot it.
Step 4: Add desired amount of yogurt to a bowl.

Photobucket
See how amazing it looks?
Too bad it doesn’t taste amazing. At all.
But the dogs enjoy it.

Step 5: Add desired amount of peanut butter.
This you can eat!

Photobucket

Step 6: Mix it all up!

Photobucket

Step 7: Add apple slices! Or whatever fruit your dog enjoys. Just so long as it isn’t grapes or raisins.

Photobucket

Step 8: Start spooning it into a Kong!

Photobucket

Step 9: As you’re filling the second Kong, remember about the honey that you forgot and quickly add that in! Mix it up and pretend like you never forgot about it.

Photobucket

Step 10: Place Kongs in freezer, because frozen treats take a little longer to devour and thus they keep your dog busy longer. ;]

Photobucket
And no, I have no idea who will get that fourth Kong…

Step 11: Look at this face and tell him he can’t have them yet because they need to freeze first.

Photobucket

Then let him lick the bowl clean because you feel guilty for denying the poor starving Collie some food.

Photobucket

Then when the girls get jealous, you’ll have to let them lick the spoons clean.

Leave the treats in the freezer long enough to get good and frozen. Then pull them out when the dogs are destroying the house or have worked themselves up into a barking frenzy because the wind blew a tumble weed down the street. Or maybe you just got back from a walk or playing outside and your dog needs to cool off. They’ll have a tasty, distracting, and cold treat and you’ll have a few minutes of peace. ;]

New neighbors

Yesterday the dogs noticed something peculiar going on next door and they made sure everyone in our house, and anyone near by, knew about it. We all went to the window to see what all the fuss was about.
Our neighbors across the street were moving their four gorgeous horses across the street and into our next door neighbors’ yard; the yard that backs up against the side of our yard.
We think the horses are going to be living in that yard temporarily while (it looks like) their owners re-fence their own yard.
So, for now, the dogs have some horses on the other side of the fence to bark at and sniff!
Thank goodness these horses normally live with two border collie mixes and they seem to be fairly use to the barking. They don’t seem to mind it too much. They also don’t mind nosey little Petal Collies sticking their slender little heads through the fence to get a good sniff of them.
Ella didn’t join us for this meeting. She gets a little crazy around horses. Okay, a LOT crazy. I think she might be afraid of them. And with Ella going crazy and being nervous and stressed + Petal being crazy excited and crazy curious + Lassie trying to herd them, it would have made for many hysterical dogs.
It was also windy and freezing cold yesterday (you’ll see the lovely storm clouds that brought us some snow and power-outage in the photos) and Ella was not happy with the weather. I didn’t think it would be very nice of me to combine her least favorite things. So she stayed inside the warm, horse-free, house.
Anyway, on to the pictures!

  Photobucket
“What’s this? When did those horses get there?!”
“Time to investigate!”

Photobucket
“Here horsey, horsey, horsey!”

Photobucket
“Let me get a good sniff of your face!”

Photobucket
“Some people think WE’RE big! Look at these guys!”

Photobucket
“How do you suppose we herd them with this fencing in the way?”

Photobucket
“Hello Horsey! Wanna play with me?!”

 Photobucket
“Hey, what’cha eatin’ there?”

Photobucket
“Can I have some?”

Now just the horses.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The light brown one (center in the first picture of just the horses) is my favorite. Gorgeous markings and he/she let me pet him/her. :]

Now I just have to find some sheep for my Collies to meet up close like this!
;]

Look at that face!

Just look at these faces!

Photobucket
“Oh, hi there!”

Photobucket
“Don’t mind me, just hoping to get a treat!”

Photobucket
“Hello friends!”

Photobucket
“Hey Momma, wanna play?”

Photobucket
“Not me. I don’t want to play, I’m dog tired!”

Photobucket
“Play?! Did someone say play?! I wanna play!!”

Photobucket
Handsome boy.

Photobucket
Crazy, crazy, adorable girl.

Photobucket
Beautiful girl. I could pet that face until there was no fur left.

How could you look at these faces and not want to kiss them and feed them an endless amount of treats?!
;]

Happy Saturday! Enjoy your weekend!

Demanding Collies

Photobucket
“Hey Mom, wanna play with me? I’ll go get a toy!”
Photobucket
“No Mom! I’ll go get a BETTER toy and you will play with ME!”
Photobucket
“Hey Mom!”
“Hey Mom!”
“I got a ball!”
“I got a rope!”
“PLAY WITH ME.”
“NO, PLAY WITH ME.”
Good thing they both got distracted before they made it back to me. I didn’t have to choose.
Happy Saturday! Enjoy your weekend!

Zoomies

PhotobucketPhotobucket

They had a great time in the yard this morning. Racing around in circles, wrestling, rolling around (Ella), digging (also Ella), barking at things blowing in the wind (started by Ella).

Then they came inside and enjoyed peanut butter and cheese crackers in their Kongs.
Now it’s time for a nap!

I love feeling the wind through my hair!

What’s better than a wind blown Collie?
If you immediately thought “Cake!” you were wrong.
If you thought “Kitties! Where are the kitties?!” you’re not only wrong, but you’re in the place!
Photobucket
The correct answer is…

Photobucket
Not much.

Just look at that! I wanna run my fingers through it and do ridiculous things like braid it or put ponytails or hair clips in it!*

* All of these things have been done to him before (hey, he was raised by a thirteen year old girl with three younger sisters, this stuff was bound to happen to him! It’s alright though, it made him the very patient boy he is today). Needless to say, the day Petal’s hair was long enough to put girly hair clips and bows in was a very happy day for this boy, indeed. ;]

P.S. Head on over to our Facebook page (click on the little Facebook stamp at the top of the left sidebar) and post a picture of your dog(s) so Lassie, Ella and Petal can see their followers! If you would like to, you may leave their Facebook and/or blog urls, too, then we can like and follow them back!
Thanks!

Lassie’s Idea of Playing Fetch

Lassie’s version of fetch is fairly simple. Not that the traditional version of fetch isn’t simple, it’s just not Lassie’s style.
His idea of fetch is, sure, I’ll go get it! I’ll even bring it back, but good luck getting it from me.

Photobucket
“Here Momma, throw it again!”

Here he is bringing it back and looking all sweet and like he’s just begging for you to throw it for him, aww.

  Photobucket
“Really Momma, take it!”

I reached down to take it and he whips around and runs off with it, probably laughing at how silly and gullible his human is.

He’s just like Lucy.
