Petal’s first trip to the dog park
My family and I took Lassie and Petal to the dog park Monday evening. The closest dog park is about 55 miles away and this was Petal’s first time ever at a dog park. She did very well!
Jetta (dog running), Petal and Zoe (black dane pup).
My favorite thing about the dog park is watching the dogs interact, of course, and watching the owners, too. I find it completely hilarious how everyone’s dogs went so well with their personalities/appearance. For example, there was this older guy there who was all proper and polite with his very proper Poodle. Then there was this tall, very beautiful girl with her lean, tall and gorgeous Weimaraner, both of which seemed to have a love for life. There was a German Shepherd with her athletic and outdoorsy owner. There was a couple with two dogs, one of them was some sort of Setter/hunting dog (I forget the exact breed) and she went perfectly with the man, while the laid back Great Dane puppy went very well with his wife.

While watching everyone, I noticed that my poor Petal seems to be socially awkward, like I am (though I feel that I have gotten better). Rather than playing with the dogs, she spent half of her time running along beside them, watching them play together. Sometimes she would start to chase them, but as soon as they turned around to chase her, her tail went between her legs and she would look at them like “I SURRENDER! I SURRENDER!”
She spent the other half of her time trying to get the little dogs in the small dog area of the park to come over to the fence and play with her. Apparently they’re more fun or maybe they’re just less intimidating (though I hardly think so).
Petal: “I was meant to be a little dog.”
Despite her socially awkwardness, she still seemed to have a great time and she was definitely a very happy girl (and very exhausted once we got back in the car to go home).
With time I think Petal will get use to the dog park and pretty soon she’ll be everyone’s best friend. Or a pest to everyone, depends on how you look at it. ;]

The poodle owner described Petal as “exuberant” I think it’s the perfect word for her.
I just don’t understand why he seemed so surprised. Does his dog not jump and bounce around for joy at being leash-free and in a completely new environment?
Ella looooves Petal
Sojos = Miracles.
Ever since I switched dog foods Ella has been much more comfortable and sweet. She has finally really bonded with Petal and actually snuggles with her. Â :O
It confuses poor Petal, because usually Ella gets mad when Petal tries to lay too close to her. But it’s still the sweetest thing!
Yay for raw diets!
cause you’re cuter than a cupcake
Ten reasons why Petal is cuter than a cupcake.
- your ears stand straight up, unless you’re eating, then you hold them down like your head is a plane and you’re preparing to land.
- you have an overbite that makes you look like varies cartoon characters, like Scrat.
- you have a petal on your head.
- you have freckles on your nose and you have to wear sunscreen to protect the small visible amount of pink skin on your nosey.
- you notice the birds in the sky and watch them with awe and fascination, sometimes you even start to run with them as if you think you might be able to fly too.
- you wake me up gently by lightly sniffing and licking my face.
- you like to sleep on top of mounds of pillows and/or blankets.
- you’d do anything for a cookie.
- you carry your Orbee with a rope around like it’s your child. though sometimes you ditch it in random spots just to watch me fetch it for you.
- even though you often have the attention span of a squirrel, you are capable of focusing and you are a very brilliant little doggy.
Photo Shoot #2!
Today I took Petal to Urban Dawgz and I gave her a much needed bath. My smelly dog now smells of Cain & Able’s yummy peppermint shampoo. She’s so fluffy and soft too! I couldn’t resist taking her out in the sunshine and snapping lots of pictures. ;]

Let’s fly.
Beautiful baby girl.
Cheesy grin. ;D

Sleepy Dogs.
The end of this week has been pretty low-key so far with the cold weather we’ve been having (come on, where’s Spring?!). Â So I’ve been able to capture some sleepy dog moments. And what’s cuter than a picture of a sleeping dog?
Petal’s Birthday
Yesterday (Monday, December 6th) was Petal’s first birthday! This year has gone by incredibly fast, but it’s been a really fun year. Petal has grown so much and so fast, it’s hard to believe she was just a tiny little puppy in February. It’s also hard to believe it’s already December!
We had some fun with Petal’s birthday though and baked mini vanilla cupcakes and frosted them with purple buttercream frosting. They turned out really good and were a big hit with everyone, including the dogs. ;] We also bought them some cookies from a local dog store (Urban Dawgz) and those were devoured in seconds.
Mini vanilla cupcakes!
Frosted with homemade buttercream frosting.
Dog cookies from the pet store.
Yummy cupcake! Spoiled, spoiled dog. 😛
My sister Melanie had fun feeding a second cupcake to Petal. She even smeared the frosting over her nose.
Petal was not very happy about getting frosting smeared across her nose. Hahaha.
Would you believe that she actually looks at people from the corner of her eye like that all the time?
And, of course, what’s a birthday party without presents? And what’s a dog birthday party without new Kong toys?
Blast from the Past.
While looking for an old picture of Lassie to show to a friend, I started feeling nostalgic and went browsing through more old pictures of Lassie and Ella. I’m blown away by how much they’ve grown! And so quickly, too.
Just look at how small Lassie was when he was just a baby! This picture had to have been taken the end of 2004 or beginning of 2005, not sure. The other dog pictured was our family’s Great Dane, Talos, or Tal for short. He was Lassie’s buddy and teacher until he passed away.
Lassie’s very first camping trip! My word was he orange! His coat alone has changed so much. However, his seating habits haven’t changed. He’ll sit on your lap, or on your head if he can, or stairs, or chairs; anything he can back his butt into, he’ll sit on.
Lassie’s 2nd birthday. I did, indeed, throw him a doggie party. We invited the dogs in the neighborhood that I use (before we moved) to care for when their owners were away. I stuck party hats on them and baked Lassie a paw print shaped cake to share with them. They played for hours outback in the yard and even in the house. His party was a huge success, and, apparently, it was pretty exhausting, too. ;]
Hanging out in our old bedroom. What a handsome boy he is.
Oh my, look how tiny she was! What a sweet little angel. She’s grown so much! She’s still as pretty as can be, though.
What a goofball! She’s still crazy and silly, though she doesn’t lay like that anymore.
My dog can sing and play guitar! She’s gifted.
Look at that sweet sleeping face. So peaceful.
Petal’s only six months old and I’ve only had her for four months, so she doesn’t have much of a past yet, but we can’t just leave her out can we? Of course not! Besides, she has grown so much already, I can’t hardly believe it.
The day after we picked her up from the Vegas airport. That sweet little face of hers allows her to get away with everything. She’s just too cute for her own good!
Aww! She fell asleep in the car, snuggling her purple monkey Kong Wubba. So sweet!
Fallen asleep at the end of the bottom bunk. I think she looks a bit like a bear cub in this picture. I love her little pink paw!
“Time for my extreme close-up, Momma!”
I just love these guys and I can’t believe how much they’ve all grown! Sometimes I wish I could make them stop and have them stay my little puppies forever.
