The human is sick so Petal gets to blog!

The mom is sick with a cold so I’ve been taking care of her and now I’m posting for her, too.
Because I’m full of awesome.

Photobucket
See? Here I am snuggling her and keeping her warm. She’s under all that comfy white blanket.

So while the human mom has been busy being sick and sneezing her brains out we received two blog awards by three separate people! Sweet!

The first award we received was the Liebster award. Basset Momma and Bringing Up Bella chose to give us this award. How sweet of them both! We love both these blogs. Basset Momma has two of the cutest Basset Hounds ever and Bella from Bringing Up Bella is a gorgeous girl who is lots of fun to read about. We’re so happy you both chose us.
If I could, I would lick your faces.
But anyways. Mom said I better get on to the details now. So this is how it works:

Liebster means “dearest” in German, and the award is intended to help up-and-coming blogs get the attention they deserve. As with any award, there is a bit of ceremony involved. In order to accept the award, we must do the following:

  • Copy and paste the award on our blog.
  • Link back to the blogger who gave us the award.
  • Pick our five favorite blogs with less than 200 followers, and leave a comment on their blog to let them know they have received the award.
  • Hope that the five blogs chosen will keep spreading the love and pass it on to five more blogs.
Fun, right? So here are the five blogs Lassie, Ella, Mom and I picked!
The Dogs of Greenhill Farm Mom loves all of the gorgeous photos and the sweet, beautiful doggies over there. Their posts are always such fun to read!
Two Dogs, One Camera, Priceless Moments Another blog with great photos and pretty dogs! These dogs are very fun to read about.
One Collie… two actually A great Collie blog with, not just one, but two very handsome Collies!
Key West Collies More beautiful Collies that are always up to something fun. Mom loves Essex and says she wants her next Collie to be a tricolor.
Eating The Elephant Why yes, there IS another Collie at this blog! Her name is Violet and she’s very smart. We love Collie blogs, obviously, but there’s more than just a Collie at this blog (though, really, what more do you need?). There’s Piper the German Shepherd and Dewey the mixed breed. Mom would like to dare you to look at Dewey’s freckled face and not be tempted to kiss your screen.
Now go check them out! :]
We received one other award from another one of our sweet followers. We’re going to save that one for another post though, because the human and I will have to track down some more blogs to pass that award onto!
Thanks again Basset Momma and Bringing Up Bella!
Woof,
Petal

How to Make a Collie Snow Angel

Today Lassie is going to show you all— Collies and NonCollies alike— how to make a Collie Snow Angel in just five easy steps!
Photobucket
Step 1: Pick a good spot in the snow, lay down, and commence rubbing your snout around in it.

Photobucket
Step 2: When ready, begin kicking legs around in the snow while still rubbing your snout around in it.

Photobucket
Step 3: Begin rolling your whole body around in the snow.

Photobucket
Step 4: Keep rolling! You may have to lick a little snow off of your face and, if you have any, you may also have to ignore your doggy sibling/s if they try to distract you and get you to play with them instead. You mustn’t get distracted, this Collie Snow Angel making is serious business.

Photobucket
Step 5: Once you’re satisfied with your snow angel, get up and shake off all that snow!

And that is how you make a Collie Snow Angel! ;]

Quick little note: I updated my Q-tip Review with a little note about the Precision Tips. The smaller, Purse Pack of the Precision Tips are not available for sale, see the post for more details. Thanks!

Fun with the Kong Flyer

As you may know, for Petal’s second birthday I got her the KONG Flyer.
And she is in love with it.
Which makes me so happy. I was worried she would rather play with the collapsable bowl, haha.
But she loves this frisbee so much more than that bowl!
She loves to carry it around in her mouth. She’ll even carry it out into the yard for me.
She runs like a crazy little Collie and even tries to jump up and snatch it out of the air.
She hasn’t succeeded yet, but it’s still cool to watch.
I’ve been using treats and the clicker to teach her to bring it back to me so I won’t have to chase her down for it, haha. So far so good! We’ve only worked on it twice with the clicker and she’s catching on really quickly.
Gotta love clicker training.
And a bright Collie. ;]
Anyway, on to the pictures!

Throw it again! Throw it again!

Photobucket

I know, I know. There are hardly any action shots.
Turns out holding a clicker, treats, camera and throwing a frisbee all at the same time is rather difficult!
So I got distracted with having her pose with it instead and by the time I decided to try and get a few more action shots in, the camera battery died, haha. Oh well. Next time. ;]

Also, just thought I would share this because I find it pretty funny: I fell down the stairs today.
Well, okay, that’s a little dramatic. I slipped off the last step and landed on my butt in the snow and hit my back against the steps. Yeah, it hurt, but mostly it was just really funny because Petal turned around and looked at me like “Why are you on the ground?” Then she play bowed and started hopping around in the snow. “Is this a game?! It’s a game, isn’t it?! I wanna play! Let’s play!” Silly dog. And while she was doing this Lassie was sniffing me and making sure I was okay, then he stood nice and still so I could use him to pick myself back up.

And now my back is sore.
But Petal’s reaction still makes me laugh.

Pants!

I don’t know if you guys have noticed this, but..
The first thing I noticed and thought of when I saw a picture of Petal for the first time was “That Collie is wearing pants!”

  Photobucket

Check out those brown pants!
Note: this was not the first picture I saw of Petal. This one was taken after she came home to live with me.

Nowadays they’re red and strawberry blonde pants. ;]

She never leaves the house without her pants on. Such a modest little doggy.
She even wears a bra!

And yes, Ella is looking through a Delia*s catalog there on the floor. What can I say? My girls have a thing for fashion.

Now if I could just get Petal to stop running around topless…

Petal’s Second Birthday

Today sweet little Petal turned  2!
I can’t believe how quickly she grew.
But at the same time..

Has it really only been two years since I brought this sweet little puppy home?

Photobucket

It seems like she’s always been here.

  Photobucket

We celebrated with a romp in the snow, presents and some yummy dog cookies!
And, of course, plenty of pictures.
But don’t worry. I limited myself.
Sort of. ;]

Photobucket
Present! A Kong Frisbee (Petal is my first dog who has shown some real interest in a frisbee and we had been playing with our collapsable water bowl for awhile) and some (not pictured) dog treats! Okay, so it’s really a small bag of Orijen kibble because it was cheaper then the actual training treats, haha.

  Photobucket
Cooookieeees! And two eager doggies. ;]

Photobucket
Petal gets the BIG cookies, of course.

Photobucket
Nom nom nom.

Photobucket
Mmmmm.

A quick video of Petal opening, or at least partially opening, her present.

Happy birthday sweet Petal!

Now that you’re 2, I expect better behavior. ;]

Just kidding, you’re a good girl.

Review: Q-tips!

Photobucket

I don’t know about you guys, but I have found many uses for Q-tips including: make-up touch up/clean up (I can never apply eyeliner just right the first time, so a damp Q-tip became my best friend), cleaning between the keys on my keyboard, rubbing nail polish off my fingers (.. I’m a messy person) and there are many other uses. I love their little travel/purse size containers, I keep one in my make-up bag at all times. I use them on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis for myself.

However, I never once thought to use them to help with the dogs.
What could the dogs possibly need Q-tips for?

Photobucket
I found a few good uses for them with my own dogs.
They came in handy when Lassie needed ointment applied on a very… delicate and private area, a Q-tip made the job oh so much easier and much less.. gross. I wasn’t trying to open up the bathroom door with just my palms as I try not to smear my ointment-y fingers on the doorknob. Thank you, Q-tips!
I used them to rub a little Paw Rub on Petal’s dry nose. And when she got a cactus needle stuck in her leg early this year, I’m sure a Q-tip Precision Tip would’ve made applying Neosporin to the little puncture wound very easy had I had one. I think I’ll be keeping one of the little cases of Q-tips in the dogs’ travel bag from now on!

I also used a Q-Tip Precision Tip to clean out the little hard to reach creases in Petal’s Kong Treat Ball.
I thought this toy would just forever be dirty in those little creases because nothing was small enough to fit in there. But the Q-Tips fit in the little creases perfectly and I was able to get it all cleaned up!

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I also enjoyed using the Precision tips for fixing up my eyeliner. With the regular Q-Tip I was always picking off some of the cotton, trying to make it smaller and pointier; there’s no need for that with the Precision tips and they fixed up my eyeliner very nicely. I also used those Precision tips to make little polka dots on my finger nails with nail polish! SO fun and super easy!

Photobucket

There are tons of ways to use Q-tips. Click here for a list of more Q-tips uses!

And enjoy one last photo of my pretty little Q-tip model.

Sleepover!

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

On Thursday Petal’s little friend, Pepper (a Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix), came over and is staying with us until Sunday. Petal and Pepper have been playing nonstop and wearing each other out, it’s so nice! Haha.

These girls get along so well together and are about a year apart in age. They love to wrestle each other the most and sometimes they like to chase each other, too. But Pepper has a habit of biting at Petal’s ankles, which Petal doesn’t really like, so she ends up running with her butt tucked underneath herself and then she quickly sits down. It’s too funny.

They’ve been having a blast playing in the snow and wrestling in the kitchen. They’re so cute!
