Dreaming of snow

In July and most of August we received an abundance of thunder, lightning, and rain every day (or very nearly every day).
It was crazy. I can’t remember ever getting this much rain in Southern Utah.
I absolutely loved it.
Now it is September and we’re heading towards Autumn and it’s starting to cool down.
Though, as far as heat goes, it has been a pretty mild summer anyway.
Between the (sometimes) mild heat and the frequent rain storms, I started wondering what winter would hold for us. I’m hoping for plenty of snow.
Because I have literally been dreaming of snow lately.

I’ve been dreaming of seeing my goofy Lassie snack on the snow and lounge in it as if he’s on a beach in Hawaii.

I’ve been dreaming of laughing at Petal as she burrows her face beneath the snow and then takes off like a bullet (because snow is her catnip).

But mostly I’ve been remembering the crazy amounts of snow we use to get while living in the mountains in Northern Utah.
I know we won’t get anything like the snow we got then, but a girl can dream. 😉

That was some insane (and fun, unless you had to shovel the driveway, or you got stuck in said driveway) snow.

That is a six foot fence.
Or at least it was before the snow came and turned it into a four-ish foot fence (say that ten times, fast).

“Grizzly, come over and play!”

Believe it or not, we only got more snow that year.
It piled up and up and we wondered if it would ever stop.

Photobucket

It accumulated more and more and grew taller and taller until…

February 2008. View from our next door neighbor’s backyard.

We got six feet of snow.
Ella no longer needed permission to go visit her boyfriend Grizzly, she just waltzed on over the fence and romped around in the snow with him.

One of the neighbors behind us had the brilliant idea to dig out a path way for their dogs (I think they owned retired racing Greyhounds, but I might be getting them confused with different neighbors), so they could maneuver around their yard a little more easily and wouldn’t be able walk over their fence.
Well, Lassie, Ella, and my Aunt’s dog (who lived with us for a little while) decided to hop on over and pay their yard a little visit.

Hopping over was the easy part, but getting back to their own yard? Impossible. They were stuck in the neighbor’s yard and since they lived behind us, I had to either run around the block or cut through the backyards. I honestly can’t remember which one I did, but cutting through the backwards sounds smarter and faster, so let’s say I did that.

I go and knock on the neighbor’s front door.
“Hi… um… My dogs are stuck in your backyard… Can I get them, please?”
We had a good laugh about that.
I walked the dogs home and, of course, found a better way to let the dogs out to take care of business, because as funny as it was, we didn’t want that happening every day, several times a day.

We definitely won’t get six feet of snow here (which is probably a good thing, because it does become problematic), but I hope we get enough to have some fun in, without getting muddy.

Photobucket

Yeah.
I’m kind of tired of the mud.
;P

Quick update

I’ve already posted this on Facebook, but for those of you who may not follow us on Facebook (hint hint, click the Facebook button to your right ;)), I will be out of town until Friday.
I don’t know if I’ll be posting again until then. I had planned on posting yesterday, for Black and White Sunday, but obviously that didn’t happen.
I didn’t even realize I had forgotten to do that until this morning. Heh. I’ve been busy.
I will get back into the swing of things.
How many times have I said that now?
Well, this time I’m determined.
I’ll get back to regular blogging soon.
For now, enjoy these sweet faces.

Monday Mischief: Chewed Pencil Edition

This morning, as I walked over to the bookshelf where I had left my glass of water, I looked down and spotted this in Petal’s bed:
Photobucket

… What does this say about me?
Heh. Probably nothing good.
But allow me to defend myself. I was, to be fair, asleep when she did this.
Normally I can hear mischief from miles away, even while I’m sleeping, and I fly out of bed to put an end to it.
Seriously, I should have a cape.
Unfortunately my cold has weakened my supernatural abilities and I had no idea she even had access to this pencil until after she got bored with it.

I wonder what the AKC would say about this…

Photobucket
Look! There’s even Collie hairs sticking out of it! Ha!

Let’s see what Petal has to say about her pencil chewing…
Photobucket
“The cat did it.”
The cat?!
Photobucket
“You lying little fleabag! Well! I’ve never been more insulted in my entire life!”
Nice try, Petal, but the evidence was found in your bed.

I’m still wondering where she found this pencil.
I had a few of them in my purse, from when the local pet store (now closed! :( darn it!) was offering free training classes for the Canine Good Citizen test (which Lassie took and passed);
Photobucket
“I don’t chew on pencils.”

they were giving out these pencils. I guess they felt they had too many pencils, because she gave me a whole handful of them. I don’t know why. She probably looked at me and thought, “She’s probably a student, she could use a few thousand pencils!”
Well I’m not a student and I’ve had these pencils for a year now and haven’t so much as sharpened them.
I only have one, misplaced, pencil sharpener and dozens of markers.
So of course I use the markers.

Anyway.

I wish I could say this was the first time Petal ever chewed on a pencil, but that is not so. She has raided our pencil box once before, so we’re careful to keep the lid on it.
She never swallows them though, thank goodness. Crayons, on the other hand…
Yeah, I’m looking at you! Miss Rainbow Poop!

Wordless Wednesday: Anything to be the center of attention

Photobucket

This wordless wednesday won’t be completely wordless, because I want to let you all know that Lassie and Petal’s vet appointment went really well!
I told the vet what I knew about Ella and he went over the Collies very thoroughly. Everything looked and sounded well.
I can’t even begin to tell you how relieved I have felt since we left their appointment.
A huge weight was lifted and that worried/sick feeling in my stomach is finally gone.
Thank you all for your well wishes and for being so kind and supportive through everything.

Off to the V-E-T we go!

Lassie and Petal are in for a fun day today.
Today they’re going to the v-e-t.
Since Ella’s sudden passing every little thing Lassie or Petal do worries me.
I know I’m being irrational. I know they’re okay and I know I’m worrying over silly things.
But they’re due for a check up anyway, so why worry?
Why worry over every little thing when I can have them checked out by a vet?
I’m also irrationally nervous about their appointment.
I can’t handle any bad news. They better be in perfect health.
Wish us luck.
And wish me the return of my rational mind.
I’m starting to miss it.

“When will she realize I know how to spell?”

"Wow! Look at those show dogs!"

When I take Lassie and Petal out we get a lot of “Lassie! Come home!” calls, which Lassie of course responds to and then everyone has a good laugh. Including me.
Apart from the Lassie jokes,
“What’s that, Lassie?! Timmy is stuck in the well?!”
we also get the occasional “Wow! Look at those show dogs!” and I smile.
I smile because I think it’s quite the compliment. I do try and work hard to keep them well groomed.
I also smile (and chuckle) because those people haven’t seen them looking like this,
PhotobucketPhotobucket

Adorable still, yes.
But they’re not about to enter a show ring, are they?
😉

Oh, and yes, I did have to go all the way back to the winter time (early December, to be exact) to find a goofy, candid shot of Lassie. That’s when he really lets his hair down; when there’s snow.
He’s obviously not a mud fan like Petal and Ella are.
Speaking of Ella,
