Woof! Hello! Petal here with a tasty treat review for all you canines. If you like a good crunch then you’ll love these treats!
These are Newman’s Own Organics dog cookies. I got the lamb and barley flavor. I love lamb, which Mom thinks is weird because I was bred to herd and protect sheep. What can I say? I like what I like. Anyway. These cookies have some other great ingredients too: Organic Barley, Organic Lamb, Organic Carrots, Organic Apples, Organic Palm Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Organic Molasses.
All organic ingredients! Yummy!
These cookies are rectangle shape but are scored down the middle making them easy to break into two square cookies.
While they are a breeze to break in half, it is impossible for my (weak) human to break them any further. Which is PAWSOME because that means I get a whole square! But sometimes my stingy human snatches the bigger crumbs that I drop while we’re walking and makes me do extra tricks for them. She claims she only does this so that I can walk and eat at the same time AND still get to eat every last crumb, but if that were true she wouldn’t make me do more tricks for them.
Yeah, that’s right, I’ve got you all figured out Momma.
My rotten Momma also likes to hide my squares in my KONG Genius. Something about keeping my naughty self busy.
I don’t know what she could possibly mean by THAT, I’m an angel.
I do love my KONG Genius though. Being a Collie, I’m a natural born Genius, so this toy is a wonderful challenge for me. Pair it with these cookies and I’m busy for quite some time!
Overall, I love these cookies! Mom usually gives me one after every walk (she’s going to stick to the training size crunch treats for during our walk) and one in my KONG Genius when I need some busy work to do. If you’re interested you can find these treats on Chewy.com! Tell your human to order you some now while they’re on sale for $3.99! And don’t worry little dogs, Newman’s Own has some smaller sized treats if these are too big for you.
Thanks Chewy!
Discloser: We were sent 1 bag of Newman’s Own Organics dog treats from Chewy.com in exchange for a review. We were not and are not being compensated for this review. All opinions expressed here are my own based on my personal experience with the product.

What do you use to carry treats on walks for training? What is the 1 calorie treat that you use? My dog walk manner training needs some consistency! Thanks!
Hello Julie, I racked my brain trying to remember what brand it was that the one calorie treats and finally remembered: they’re from Fromm! Haha. You can find them here:

As for carrying treats, I use two things: a very sad looking Eddie Bauer treat bag that is older than Petal and falling apart and my pocket. In the treat bag I carry LOADS of crunchy treats (usually Zuke’s because you get a lot of treats for just a few dollars, but I’m going to be switching brands soon because Zuke’s was sold to a company I’m not a huge fan of: I’d rather support smaller companies) and I sling it over my shoulder with my camera bag strap. The treat bag use to have it’s own strap, but it got chewed apart if I remember correctly. In my pocket I carry the truly good stuff: soft, meaty, stinky treats (Canidae’s TidNips (smell like jerky) and Think Dog! Alligator and Shrimp (which REAK to high heaven but Petal is enjoying them)). I’m carrying them in my pocket until I can get a second treat bag. I’m hoping to find a treat bag with two separate pockets inside, one for my crunchy “low value” treats and one for my soft and stinky “high value” treats. Anyway. Sorry for the very long answer to your simple question, haha.
Thanks for your quick response. I mostly use Zukes too – who were they sold to?!?!? I have tried using a small fanny pack with treats in a ziplock – ziplock just does not work. Maybe I should just put them directly in the fanny pack and wash it weekly!!! What brand of clicker do you have? I noticed there are LOTS of brands of clickers – and when reading reviews, someone recommended using the lid from a bottle of Snapple, because it was just as loud as his clicker. I do not have a clicker yet, but have played with a Snapple bottle lid and hear it click….thinking of trying it.
They were sold to Nestle Purina. I use to use a ziplock bag too and agree, it just doesn’t work, haha. I have a Starmark Pro-Training clicker, you can see a picture of it in this blog post:

But if a Snapple cap will work just as well, I say go with that! Although, a clicker is easier to keep track of because you can keep it on a keychain or wristband or lanyard, so that’s something to consider.
Have you considered switching to Jones Natural Chews? We’re taking puppy classes with our new dog and I’ve been tearing the taffies into tiny pieces for the puppy as training rewards. They tear really small. Our next project is making a treat bag to carry them in.

Oh really? That sounds like a good option. I’ll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Seriously? Newman’s Own makes dog treats? No way. Y’know, I’ve been wondering, lately, if I can get any of our Jones chews into a Kong. Hmm.
Love Newman’s dog treats, but haven’t tried this flavor. The pups think we should remedy that Great review with some pawsome photos!
