Review: Tropiclean Fresh Breath Plus

We’re playing catch up with our Chewy.com reviews. Last month we received the Tropiclean Fresh Breath Plus Hip & Joint water additive to try out. Then, shortly after receiving it, we moved. So that took up a lot of time and left us without wifi for about a week (hooray for scheduling picture posts ahead of time or we would have vanished entirely). Which is why this review is late. However, I did manage to remember to add the Tropiclean to Petal’s water nearly everyday so we got to test it over a period of several weeks. But before we get to how it worked for us, let’s look at the company a little bit.

Tropiclean makes a wide range of dental hygiene products for both dogs and cats. There’s water additives, gels, foam, toothbrushes, dental chews, and flossy toys. They also have grooming supplies and cleaning supplies.
Here’s what they had to say about their ingredients:
“We are proud to serve you with products that contain good, naturally sourced, wholesome ingredients. You can rest easy knowing that our ingredients provide the healthy choices your family deserves. We have made it a point to show off our ingredients, their purpose and source in both our grooming products and treats.”
You can read more about their ingredients here.

I liked what I read about them and decided to give them a try. While I do my very best to brush Petal’s teeth everyday, and I’m usually successful in doing so, I do have those days where I just simply forget to do it. Or I remember as I’m lying in bed, about to fall asleep, and think, “Tomorrow is another day…” So I thought the water additive would be a great and simple way to ensure that Petal gets some oral care even on the days when I forget to brush her teeth. I was also hoping the water additive would entice Petal to drink more water. Petal has a bad habit of not drinking enough. Unfortunately it hasn’t really made much of a difference in that department. I don’t know why because I personally think the Tropiclean Fresh Breath +Plus smells really, really good.

Petal still drinks best from her Drinkwell fountain, but she’s sometimes willing to drink from her water bowl upstairs. I put the additive in this bowl as I’m not sure if the Drinkwell’s water filter would make the Tropiclean additive less effective.

Which brings me to my next point, it seems to really work at freshening breath! Petal’s breath smells much more pleasant throughout the day. Of course brushing her teeth everyday plays a big part in that, but with the addition of Tropiclean in her water, her breath has improved even more. Can’t complain about that! And just this morning I had to shoo cousin Penny out of the cat box (eeeww) and she (luckily or smartly) ran to Petal’s water bowl for a nice long drink afterwards and her mouth (thankfully) doesn’t smell like a cat’s litter box!

Other great points about Tropiclean Fresh Breath +Plus Hip & Joint:
– It’s simple and easy to use. Just shake well and add one tablespoon (one cap full) to your pet’s water bowl (approximately 16oz) (Note: This product bubbles up when shaken in bottle and when you pour water over it (oops…), so add the water to your pet’s bowl FIRST then the Tropiclean, unless your dog or cat enjoys bubbles, haha)
– It’s safe for our kitties to drink too
– It not only freshens breath but it promotes good joint health with the added ingredient of glucosamine
– It comes in 16 oz or 33.8 oz bottles priced at $6.99 & $11.99 on Chewy.com. Great deal!
– There’s also Tropiclean Fresh Breath +Plus Skin & Coat or +Plus Digestive Support

All in all, I was very pleased with this product (we even got a bonus dental chew to try! Petal has yet to try it, but I’m sure she’ll love it). It works well, has the added benefit of aiding joint health, and is cost effective (I received a 16oz bottle and used anywhere from two – four cap fulls a day (usually just two, but with cousins Penny and Leo often drinking it as well, there were days I had to refill the bowl more often than others) and now, almost a month later, it’s nearly all gone. $7 a month isn’t too bad). We will definitely be using this product again. I think it’s a great addition to our oral hygiene routine; it won’t replace our daily brushings. Brushing Petal’s teeth is still the most effective way to care for her teeth.

If your dog or cat needs fresher breath, head on over to Chewy.com and give Tropiclean a try.

note: I was sent 1 (one) 16oz bottle of Tropiclean Fresh Breath +Plus Hip & Joint from Chewy.com in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own based on my own experience with the product.

  1. I tried the Tropiclean dental additive too. I noticed that my dogs drank less when the additive was in there :-( I feel like my collie does not drink enough either, and I certainly did not want her drinking less! I used up what I had and I am debating if I should get it again…..I am NOT consistent with teeth brushing, NOT AT ALL! But I don’t want them to drink less, particularly in the summer…..maybe I will add it every other day….. Do you have any recommendations on dental chews? I was using Greenies but realized they have wheat. I try to avoid wheat and look for other types of “flours” instead……any suggestions? Have a great day!!!! Thanks for sharing your great photos of your wonderful dog!
