Play Time with Planet Dog

First of all, Happy Independence Day America! Sorry I do not have a patriotic photo to celebrate. Whoops. Enjoy this photo of Petal going crazy instead.

Second, I have a confession.

I love dog toys. A lot.

Which is why Petal has so many that her toy box can longer close. I can’t help it. There are so many cute dog toys out there. There’s stuffies, puzzles, tug toys, fetching toys, chew toys, etc etc and they’re all. So. Adorable. It doesn’t help that Petal gets ridiculously excited over new toys.

One of my favorite dog toy companies is Planet Dog. I discovered them a few years ago when I saw the cutest ball (shaped like the world!) in a Collie photo on a Flickr account I use to follow religiously. It took some serious sleuthing but eventually I found the company the ball belonged to and I quickly became a fan. They bounce like crazy which is always fun and makes for extra exercise.

Many, but not all (unfortunately), of Planet Dog’s toys are made right here in the USA. Many of their toys are Eco friendly and the rubber toys have a lovely minty scent to them. The only downside is I wind up looking like an absolute nut for constantly sniffing the dog toy.

Planet Dog also has a Chew-O-Meter which tells you how tough a toy is, from three out of five chompers (for average chewers) to five out of five chompers (for the tough guys and girls).  Petal is a gentle girl so I don’t pay much attention to that, but it was very handy when my Ella Girl was here.

Chewy.com was kind enough to surprise us with two Planet Dog toys to review! We were sent the Old Soul stuffie and the Strawberry. The Strawberry can be stuffed with treats and entertains Petal for ages. It also smells like mint.

Petal was thrilled when I opened the Chewy.com box and tossed out two new toys. She went back and forth, trying to decide which one to play with first. After choosing the stuffie (it squeaks!), she bounced around the living room with it and I swear it was just like watching Lassie. It was so sweet.

Making the classic “Go ahead and try to take it!” face that Lassie always did.

Once the strawberry was stuffed with treats (Sojos Simply Lamb treats, which we will be reviewing Tuesday) Petal ditched her Old Soul buddy and went straight to bouncing the strawberry around the living room.

Here we are, weeks later, and both toys look new (she really is a very gentle girl) and Petal still enjoys playing with them. She loves to grab a toy and start a vigorous game of high speed chase. The strawberry is especially fun to bounce down the stairs. Running up and down the stairs is quite the work out! Which is great for the times Petal still has energy after our morning walks but it’s too hot to go out again.

I’d highly recommend Planet Dog to anyone looking for some new and adorable dog toys. Chewy.com has great prices on their toys! So next time you order your pet’s food why not add a new summer toy to your cart and go out and play!

note: we were sent two toys from Chewy.com, free of charge, in exchange for this review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
