Review: Nite Dawg Collar

With Summer upon us, we’ve been taking our walks in the early morning hours or late evening/night hours to avoid the heat. In the morning we wear sunscreen to protect us from getting sunburned (yes, the dogs, too! They wear sunscreen on their noses) and at night we take a flash light to protect us from going unseen. I had thought about getting a reflective collar for the dogs, but figured it wouldn’t be very noticeable on the hairy Collies.

So when I got the opportunity to review the Nite Dawg Collar, an LED collar from SafetyGearOnline, I jumped at the chance.

“Look at this! I glow!”

Petal took it for a test walk and was glowing with pride as she wore it.
Ha. Ha.
Ha.
Anyway.
It was perfect, even with her abundance of fur it glowed very brightly, illuminating her fur and making her highly visible.

It was a little after 8 PM when we started our walk and about 10 PM when we finished. It was good and dark even with the cars and street lamps, but Petal was easy to spot with her glowing red neck!
These pictures were taken after 9 PM (note that it wasn’t actually as dark outside as it appears in these photos, the camera settings contributed to some of the darkness ;)).

The Nite Dawg Collar has two settings, glow and flash.
The collar can be turned on by pressing the button near the D ring. Press it once and it’ll glow, press it again to make it flash, and again to turn it off.

(If you’re sensitive to flashing lights, ridiculously cute mixed breeds, or the color red, you may not want to watch this video ;)).

The light source is removable for resizing and washing the collar.
To resize the collar you simply remove the light source, adjust the nylon collar to the appropriate size for your dog, size the light source by lining it up with the collar and then cutting off the excess light source. Replace the light source back in the collar and you’re done!

The Nite Dawg Collar is weather resistant and comes with a replaceable battery. They are available in three adjustable sizes, small, medium and large. SafetyGearOnline also offers an LED leash and other night safety collars.

All in all, it’s a fantastic product. I have no complaints and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who ventures out into the night with their dog. It’s a must have!

One night Petal wandered into the Occasionally Forbidden Room (one of the bedrooms) and wandered back out with some treasure.

I told her if she could get the container open herself, then she could have what remained of the peanuts.

It took some thought,

and some destruction,

but she eventually achieved her goal.

Mmmm, peanut sawdust.

She’s such a nut.

Ella’s Hostage

*sniff* *sniff*

“Ella, can I please come out now?”
“No. Not until I get some peace and quiet. Or a cookie. Whichever comes first.”

*sigh* “Mom! Ella won’t let me out!”

The cage door was open plenty wide enough for Petal to get out, but Ella wouldn’t allow it.
She did the same thing to Lassie just a day or so before she did it to Petal.
Every time they tried to sneak out while she was sleeping, she’d wake up just enough to give them the stink eye and they’d slowly back back into the cage.
I had to intervene on both occasions to free the poor Collie souls.
I guess Ella needed a break, so she waited until the unsuspecting Collies traipsed into the crate and then she trapped them for a little while before I decided the situation was venturing away from funny and into just plain sad.

P.S. Yes, that Kong toy use to have a head. A bunny head.
Actually, I think it’s still there, barely hanging on, and de-fluffed.

The Barkers Dozen

What is The Barkers Dozen?
It’s a doggy bakery, of course!
They make delicious dog cookies that’ll have your dogs drooling and performing all of their very best tricks.
They’re the great company that helped to raise funds for Daffy.
They’re also the sweethearts that sent my dogs free treats to thank us for blogging about their fundraiser.
They sent us five bags of goodies in four different, tasty flavors.
They’re after my dogs’ hearts!

Blueberry Bone-Anza (that’s right, it’s gluten free!) and Organic Carrot.

Organic Peanut Butter and Organic Chicken.

So far I’ve been unable to decipher a definite favorite among the dogs. They’ll gobble any one of the four flavors up without dropping it (or a single crumb) on the floor.
When my dogs don’t hesitate to take it from me or drop it on the floor and sniff at it first, I know it must be really good. Not a single crumb goes unnoticed or wasted.

I also know it’s a good, healthy treat when I can actually read and pronounce all of the ingredients.
I like giving them treats without worrying about paying for it later.

(In the form of inconsistent poo.)

I don’t like feeding them treats with strange ingredients that I have no hope in pronouncing. Lassie turns up his long Collie snout to such treats anyway.
If the dog won’t even eat it, it can’t be good. He eats poop!*

These cookies, however, are Lassie (and Ella and Petal) approved! They come running whenever they hear me opening up a Barkers Dozen bag or when they hear the word “Cookie!”
The Barkers Dozen has been added to our list of favorites, that’s for sure.

Good to the last crumb!

*Lassie would like you all to know that he USE to eat poop, when he was a young and foolish pup.
But I would like you all to know that he’s somewhat lying; he’s a recovering cat poop-aholic.

Today we walked along a walking/biking/jogging/running trail.

Ella stayed home because she prefers to do her leash walking without the company of Collies. And sometimes not at all.

Petal wore a backpack. She’s a working dog, you see. 😉
It was filled with goodies and useful things.
And a few useless things, to try and make the weight even on both sides of the pack.

And after lots of walking, I got to see and enjoy a lot of this,

Another strange sleeping spot for a very strange Collie

There is a spot, between the chair, end table and the wall, right under the window, that Petal likes to sleep.

Not super unusual, no. But this is…

Using the end table as a pillow and an arm rest is pretty strange.

It also looks pretty uncomfortable.

I guess she was just too exhausted after her morning off-leash walk to care much about comfort.
But whatever floats her boat and keeps her quiet and out of trouble, right? 😉
