Review // Giveaway // Contest: KONG Treats

We’ve got a lot to share with you all in this post!
We’ll start with the review first.

We love our KONG toys, so when opportunity came knocking we jumped on the chance to review KONG Treats!JAKKS Pacific, Inc. recently partnered with KONG to create their USA Made, All Natural Premium Treat line.
We received these three tasty treats to review:
lassiekongtreats

Sweet Potato Stix, Chew Buddies (variety pack) and Mini Meaty Bites (in beef).

They are all corn free, wheat free, soy free and contain no animal by products or artificial colors. They were all made in the USA! We love USA made treats!

Mini Meaty Bites are soft, bite-sized treats (or swallow-size in the case of my meaty-treat-loving dogs). They’re a quick but tasty reward; perfect for training. They come in beef and chicken.

They’re also shaped like little KONG toys which I think is cute.

lassiekongmeatybites
“I could care less what it is shaped like, give it to me!”

They smell very strongly (but not badly, if you ask me, they smell like beef jerky) and the dogs go wild for them, another great quality for a training treat. They’re very soft and easy to break in half, you know, if small is not small enough. 😉

“Nom nom nom.”

They’re about $5 on Amazon for a 4.5 oz bag.

Sweet Potato Stix are a soft and chewy vegetarian treat.

As you can probably tell by Lassie’s drool (I was so amused to find that when importing pictures from camera to computer), they were delicious!
These treats are easy to break into smaller pieces, if desired, and are great for training or hiding in a KONG Genius toy (the Leo in particular).

“Mmmm, delicious!”I did expect them to be a little longer, simply because of the word “stix” plus in images they do look longer. But that’s not a problem, I would’ve broken them anyway. ;)They’re about $7 on Amazon for a 6.5 oz bag.Chew Buddies “Long Lasting Chews are the perfect way to treat your dog and help clean their teeth as well.”

We received a variety pack with 4 large Chew Buddies inside. Chew Buddies come in three different flavors to choose from: Chicken (porcupine and cow pictured), Fresh Breath (alligator), and Bacon ((adorable) dinosaur).

They smelled alright to me, but they must’ve smelled amazing to the animals because 2 out of three cats came running when I opened the bag and dumped them out for pictures.

Petal was my first taste tester. I let her pick which one she wanted to try.

Moony the cat wants one too!

Petal chose the chicken flavored cow and promptly chewed it’s head off.

Look! It has a little belly button! Hehe.

The chew lasted a little longer than expected, about 5 or so minutes.
She greatly enjoyed it, licking up all the crumbs she left and begging for another.

I gave Lassie the Bacon Dino to try and he gobbled it up happily.

Front

Back

Lassie gobbled it up in about five minutes and licked up every crumb. I think it’s safe to say he greatly enjoyed it.

As you can see from the picture above, it’s not a solid treat. For my dogs, it’s not a long lasting chew, but I didn’t expect it to be. I only expected for my dogs to enjoy chewing it, which they did!
I can’t claim it did anything to clean their teeth; they each have had only one so far. I would think, however, that long term use would provide dental benefits.
The large chews come in a package of 4 and the small chews come in a package of 10. The large chews go for about $13 on Amazon.

The only thing I was disappointed in with these chews was that I didn’t get an adorable piggy chew in my bag. :(
;P

Lassie and Petal give Mini Meaty Bites 4 out of 4 paws up for tastiness!

I give them 4 1/2 out of 5 hearts.

I would definitely consider buying the Mini Meaty Bites and the Chew Buddies. The Sweet Potato Stix are great and my dogs love them, but I tend to go for the meaty treats first. Plus I try to give very little of anything sweet potato to Petal. As a puppy, for whatever reason, her tummy was a little sensitive to sweet potatoes. I’m not sure if it still is. She did just fine with the Sweet Potato Stix, but like I said, I limited her to just 1 or 1 1/2 every few days. Lassie gobbled up many of them though and really enjoys them. I would consider buying them for use in our KONG Genius.

My dogs are spoiled

The original title of this post: My sogs are spoiled.
I proceeded to make many more typos while fixing that one.
Anyway, enough about my clumsy fingers.
My dogs truly are spoiled.
It has been that way since day one.
Last month I went to Arizona for a week and a half and I left the dogs home with my Dad and siblings.
What was I thinking?
I honestly don’t know. I missed them terribly and every time we went to a store I looked around for things to buy for them.

At Petco I bought an adorable collar charm for Petal.
It was shaped like a cupcake. I had to. It was too cute. And on sale.

Photobucket

Then we went to Trader Joe’s and, what’s this? Over a pound of dog cookies for less than $4?
And they’re made with ingredients I approve of?
Yes please!

Photobucket

They still have this box of cookies and they looove them.

Bringing home a little gift for your pet when you’ve gone out of town is completely normal, you might say (and I mean pet-lover/pet-obsessed normal).
But who comes home and continues to spoil their dogs?
This person, right here!

I get home and the next day I set out to Urban Dawgz (our local pet store that was previously believed to be closed; long story short: their buyer backed out and thus they were open for another week or so), which was closing at the end of that day, so they were offering 40% off your entire purchase.
Now, come on, who would resist that?

The dogs could then add 2 rib bones, 2 Zuke’s dental bones, 1 new leash (Ruffwear Roamer leash in red, for those who might be curious, and yes, I love it), and 1 new Kong Classic to their list of new goodies. Not to mention several bags of free samples of dog kibble (they were just going to get tossed, said the store owner!) to use as training treats.

I can’t be the only one who spoils her dogs, right?
… Right?
C’mon, admit it, your dogs are spoiled!

Easter 2012

How the dogs spent Easter:
Photobucket
Enjoying frozen Kongs.

How I spent Easter:

Photobucket
Pigging out on some of the best candies from See’s Candies. Mmm.

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter spent with loved ones!
I know I did. :]

Making treats in just 500 easy steps!

Just kidding.
There aren’t 500 steps.
But today I did make the dogs some treats.
Treats that they are anxiously waiting to freeze.
Here’s what I did, but first note that…
It’s not really a recipe, just me grabbing things the dogs love, mixing it up, and stuffing it into a few Kongs. lol!
But here it is anyway.
Step 1: Find yourself at least one hungry pup.
Photobucket
This girl always has something on her nose.
Petal will do.
Though, please note, that she’s not a good food critic. She’ll eat just about anything you give to her and she always looks like this when something’s being made in the kitchen.
Anyway.
Step 2: Get the Kongs out.
Photobucket
Hopefully you don’t have more Kongs than you have dogs. I’m still not sure how I ended up with four Kongs when I only have three dogs.
Step 3: Gather together some Peanut Butter, Yogurt and Apple slices.
Photobucket
Oh, and don’t forget the Honey*.
*Honey not pictured because I forgot it.
Step 4: Add desired amount of yogurt to a bowl.

Photobucket
See how amazing it looks?
Too bad it doesn’t taste amazing. At all.
But the dogs enjoy it.

Step 5: Add desired amount of peanut butter.
This you can eat!

Photobucket

Step 6: Mix it all up!

Photobucket

Step 7: Add apple slices! Or whatever fruit your dog enjoys. Just so long as it isn’t grapes or raisins.

Photobucket

Step 8: Start spooning it into a Kong!

Photobucket

Step 9: As you’re filling the second Kong, remember about the honey that you forgot and quickly add that in! Mix it up and pretend like you never forgot about it.

Photobucket

Step 10: Place Kongs in freezer, because frozen treats take a little longer to devour and thus they keep your dog busy longer. ;]

Photobucket
And no, I have no idea who will get that fourth Kong…

Step 11: Look at this face and tell him he can’t have them yet because they need to freeze first.

Photobucket

Then let him lick the bowl clean because you feel guilty for denying the poor starving Collie some food.

Photobucket

Then when the girls get jealous, you’ll have to let them lick the spoons clean.

Leave the treats in the freezer long enough to get good and frozen. Then pull them out when the dogs are destroying the house or have worked themselves up into a barking frenzy because the wind blew a tumble weed down the street. Or maybe you just got back from a walk or playing outside and your dog needs to cool off. They’ll have a tasty, distracting, and cold treat and you’ll have a few minutes of peace. ;]

Fun with the Kong Flyer

As you may know, for Petal’s second birthday I got her the KONG Flyer.
And she is in love with it.
Which makes me so happy. I was worried she would rather play with the collapsable bowl, haha.
But she loves this frisbee so much more than that bowl!
She loves to carry it around in her mouth. She’ll even carry it out into the yard for me.
She runs like a crazy little Collie and even tries to jump up and snatch it out of the air.
She hasn’t succeeded yet, but it’s still cool to watch.
I’ve been using treats and the clicker to teach her to bring it back to me so I won’t have to chase her down for it, haha. So far so good! We’ve only worked on it twice with the clicker and she’s catching on really quickly.
Gotta love clicker training.
And a bright Collie. ;]
Anyway, on to the pictures!

Photobucket
Chasing it down.

Photobucket
Bringing it back like a good little Collie.

Photobucket
Posing with it.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Throw it again! Throw it again!

Photobucket

I know, I know. There are hardly any action shots.
Turns out holding a clicker, treats, camera and throwing a frisbee all at the same time is rather difficult!
So I got distracted with having her pose with it instead and by the time I decided to try and get a few more action shots in, the camera battery died, haha. Oh well. Next time. ;]

Also, just thought I would share this because I find it pretty funny: I fell down the stairs today.
Well, okay, that’s a little dramatic. I slipped off the last step and landed on my butt in the snow and hit my back against the steps. Yeah, it hurt, but mostly it was just really funny because Petal turned around and looked at me like “Why are you on the ground?” Then she play bowed and started hopping around in the snow. “Is this a game?! It’s a game, isn’t it?! I wanna play! Let’s play!” Silly dog. And while she was doing this Lassie was sniffing me and making sure I was okay, then he stood nice and still so I could use him to pick myself back up.

And now my back is sore.
But Petal’s reaction still makes me laugh.

Rainy Day

Today I woke up early for the Collies’ morning walk, looked out the window and went straight back to bed. It was very windy and large dark clouds were moving in. I had hoped the weather would get better later, but seeing as it’s now 5 PM and it’s even windier than before and has been raining off and on, I’m thinking it’s not going to get better.
So we stayed inside today and enjoyed the sound of the wind and the rain.
And I have to say, thank goodness for Kong!
A little bit of peanut butter smeared inside a rubber Kong kept the three of them busy when they were bored.
But for  the most part they’ve just been chilling and relaxing.
It’s been a really nice and laid back day.
Tomorrow we’re suppose to get snow.
I hope we really do.

George!

Hey guys, Petal here! Mommy said I could write a blog post because I have some super exciting news to share!
Remember my super cute and super cool giraffe George?
I got him for my very first birthday and he’s one of the best toys ever! He’s so fun to chew on, shake, tug, toss and snuggle with. George and I had a wonderful four or five months together before my sister Ella and I accidentally tore his leg off. Then we nearly tore his head off too. That’s when Mom took him away and said she would fix him “soon”.
MONTHS later she finally did fix him and guess what that means?!
I can finally play with him again!

Photobucket
He looks like Frankenstein now, but at least his head and leg are reattached!

Photobucket

Thanks Mommy!
