Pretty Ella evokes jealousy in Camera-Happy Collies

I’m sure I’ve said this before (right here in fact!), but Lassie and Petal are in love with the camera.
While Ella couldn’t care less. Every once in a great while she’ll be cooperative long enough for me to snap several shots of her, but most of the time it’s her life’s mission to make every picture of herself a great black blur. And when you try to get a picture of those beautiful brown eyes, just before you can capture those amazing eyes, she closes them or turns her head the other way.
Pest.

Sometimes bribery works, and other times she just looks like a treat-crazed monster.
But yesterday, yesterday she was in a very mellow mood and I was able to snatch some good pictures of her.
Much to the Collies’ dismay.

While I’m taking these pictures of sweet Ella:

something like this pops up in the frame:

A jealous Collie butt belonging to Petal.

She’s not the only one who will demean oneself by stooping to such drastic measures for a little camera time. Oh no.
A few sweet pictures later, and…

this face will appear in the frame…

Photobucket
“That’s enough! We need some pictures of ME!”

While we all love seeing your handsome face, Lassie (and your adorable fox-like butt, Petal), we love seeing pretty Ella, too!

Even when she ends up with debris on her head.

Monday Mischief: Trash Dog

Last Monday, for Monday Mischief, I posted about Lassie and Petal’s fondness for bottle crushing. Literally minutes after I published that blog post, this scene awaited me in the kitchen and I thought, “Well, at least I have something for next week!”
Photobucket

Are you wondering who possibly could’ve made this mess?
Or are you pretty sure it was Petal?

Photobucket
“Who? Me?”

Because Petal is a fair guess. She is the youngest and by far the most rambunctious and mischievous. She also loves to search the kitchen for scraps. So it could’ve been Petal.
Except for one thing…

Photobucket

Our trash can has a lid on it and Petal doesn’t know how to open it.
So scratch Petal off the list.

Is Ella your next guess?

Photobucket
“Innocent little me? In the trash?”

Another fair guess. Ella has a knack for trouble. We’ve seen her digging plenty of times and she causes plenty of trouble around the house. So it could’ve been Ella.
But… did you notice what was on the lid of the trash can pictured above?
Is that… Collie hair?
“But surely it wasn’t Lassie!” You say?

Photobucket
Ignore that innocent looking face! It is really the look of guilt!

Oh, but it was. It was definitely Lassie who dug around in the trash, tossing things he didn’t like onto the floor until he found what his nose had been searching for all along: an empty cat food can.
You don’t believe me? You don’t believe that that well mannered and well behaved boy would make such a mess or risk getting his hair dirty by digging in the trash?

Well, lucky for you, I have further photographic evidence. Because that adorable bad dog had another go at it after I cleaned everything up.

Photobucket

Mischievous little stinker.

But I have to say, it is one of the most hilarious and oddly endearing things that he does. I don’t know if it’s the way he lifts the lid open so effortlessly with his nose or the way the lid rests over his head as he digs for treasures. Or maybe it’s the guilty look combined with the “Oh crap!” look that he gets on his face when you catch him in the act.

P.S. Hours after the trash can incident, I found Petal in the act of something very mischievous, but we’ll save that for another Monday. ;]

Collie Soccer Video

I recently showed you all some pictures of Petal playing soccer. I also mentioned that I should record it sometime and a few days ago I did. I got several little clips on two different days of her playing soccer and I threw them all together in a quick little video.

Sorry about all the noise. It’s been insanely windy around here this week! Feel free to watch with your speakers off or on low, there’s not much to listen to anyway. ;]

Have a lovely weekend!

Silly, sleepy, patient Collie

Wednesday was a fun and busy day. My Mom and I decided that it had been too long since we last took the dogs to what we call “the trail” for some good off-leash fun.
I can’t even remember the last time we took them there. Months and months ago, I’m sure. So they were very excited about it. There was lots to sniff and a lot to pee on. When one peed, they all peed.
They ran up and down the mound/hill of dirt, they ran around out in the field. Petal pretended she was at an agility trial and leapt over bushes with perfect grace while Ella simply rampaged through them. “Bush? What bush?”

And Lassie, who isn’t one to over exert himself, trotted along the trail, being careful never to leave it (he wouldn’t want to lead his silly sheep (me and Mom) astray and he most certainly wouldn’t want to risk getting burrs and poky things stuck in his fur (I was grateful for that, Petal had to stand outside the car and get all these horribly poky (more like stab-y) things plucked out of her fur while Lassie only had a few twigs in his tail)) and peed wherever he pleased.

Petal also took upon herself the task of keeping Ella in line. Lassie and I have drawn this invisible boundary line for how far ahead they’re allowed to get before it’s time to either turn around and go back to the humans or stand and wait for them to catch up. Petal very quickly caught on to Lassie’s line and she obeys it and very rarely does she ever push it. Ella, however, rarely does she not push it. She gets too far ahead if she’s sniffed out something interesting, her recall is pretty good, but it could be better (something to work on this summer). But thankfully Petal and Lassie are always there to tell on her. Yes, my Collies are huge tattletales, it’s great. Petal will look to me and then to Ella and she’ll bark like she’s saying, “Mom! Ella got too far! Mom! Look! She’s being bad! Mom! Do something!” I’ll call Ella back and sometimes Petal will go and get her. She’ll go out and start pestering her until she—Ella—gets annoyed and comes back. So while Lassie is keeping an eye over his sheep, Petal is watching out for our little black sheep. ;]

With all of the fun (and all of the work, Petal would like to add) they had on the trail, I had three very sleepy dogs on Wednesday and that evening the girls in my family gathered in the kitchen to chit-chat while Mom grouted a table top we’re making for outside.
Guess who popped in actually looking sleepy?

Photobucket

Petal! For once she looked beat at the end of the day. She came in looking all sleepy and looking around at us like “Why is everyone still up?!”
I told her she could go to bed, but she isn’t one to be left out, so she jumped up onto the bench at the kitchen table (as she often does) and laid down on it (she’s never done this).
Then my sister had some fun with her ears and Petal just laid there like “Whatever.”

Photobucket
“Momma, it’s past bed time. Why are you still up?”

Photobucket
“Seriously, it must be late if I’M tired.”
(My sister held her ears down in the picture. She looks so silly and small without her big bat ears, doesn’t she? 😉

Photobucket
“I don’t understand why this is funny.”

Photobucket
“Great! Now everyone will think I’m a demon!”

Photobucket
“I just wanna sleep.”

Leash hooks

Using this tutorial I made these leash hooks for each of the dogs (forever ago) and then yesterday, with help from my Mom, they were finally hung on the wall.
I think they turned out pretty cute! And they were loads of fun to make, too.

For Lassie’s I used a paper bag that looked like an old newspaper, added a button and some black ribbon with dog bones along the inside of the L.

Photobucket
Lassie is wanting a steady woman and she must be a good cook. ;]

For Ella’s I used some plain yellow scrapbook paper and some fun little paper shapes.

Photobucket
Ella is a good doggy.

For Petal’s I also used scrapbook paper, three buttons, a little word bubble that my Dad (he has the best handwriting 😉 wrote “Lets Go!” in, and a little sequin butterfly.

Photobucket
And Petal wants to get going!

Photobucket

So fun! :]

P.S. Lassie laid his head on the keyboard and typed this: iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
hgf∂Ω
I think it’s his way of saying hi.
I have no idea how he made those last two symbols. How is it that my dog knows more about the computer than I do? Hmm… He must be using it when I’m away…
