Petal will sleep anywhere. On a bucket. Under a blanket with me on a freezing cold morning. On her back with her head squished against my butt.

10. Petal thinks she should be allowed to gnaw on this pencil.
11. Lassie likes to play keep-away.
12. Pepper has been staying with us for a few days. Petal has had fun with her, but is feeling a little jealous lately. She was very upset the other night when she found Lassie on the couch, laying on one side of me, and Pepper on the other side of me. It’s usually Lassie on one side and Petal on the other. She did not appreciate this scene and she told me so with her Vanishing Ears act and some giggle-worthy moaning and groaning as she looked from Pepper, to me, and back again. I swear, if Petal could talk, she would’ve told me to push Pepper off the couch.
No worries Petal, Pepper goes home today. You’re still the baby girl of the house. 😉

Have a lovely weekend!

Silly videos

How about two silly Collie videos for your Saturday?
Yes? Okay!

A few nights ago I was sitting on the floor, playing with the Collies and one of the toys they received for Christmas: the “Cane Deer” from West Paw Design. But I call him The Candy Cane Reindeer with the Wonky Eyes (his eyes make me giggle).

Petal was doing her adorable I’m-tired-but-stubborn-so-I’m-going-to-play-instead-of-sleep play, so I recorded it.

Then I realized something…

Oh Lassie, your patience never ceases to amaze me.

The Candy Cane Reindeer with the Wonky Eyes fits perfectly over a Collie nose!

As you probably have guessed: I’m easily amused and entertained.
Which is good, because an entertained human is a well behaved human, right? 😉

Have a lovely weekend!

Anything for a biscuit.

My dogs will do anything for a biscuit.

It’s true. The following photos are proof of my truthfulness.

My Collies will do anything for a biscuit.
And some camera time.
Because when you’ve got it, flaunt it.
And when your owner has treats, flaunt it in reindeer antlers…

Photobucket

Let’s meet Santa’s newest reindeers, shall we?

Photobucket
Meet Stud.
Mr. Stud.
Mr. Stud The Reindeer.
Santa’s most stunning reindeer.

Photobucket

Meet Santa’s naughtiest (but cutest) reindeer. Santa is always having to bribe her with extra carrots to just fly in a straight line, please!

Photobucket
Now don’t be fooled by the size of this reindeer. She can keep up with the best of them.
She also supplies the reindeer poop for the children who are too naughty for coal.

Photobucket
“Hey Santa, let’s visit my place first this year.”
“Uhh… no, turn around. We’re going the other way first.”

Photobucket
“This way?”
“No, just straight ahead, please!”

Photobucket
“I don’t know where the fun is in that, but if it means an extra dog biscuit, I mean carrot, then fine.”

Photobucket
“I’m a good reindeer, aren’t I? The best of the best.”
“Right you are. Your inflated ego really helps hold up the sleigh!”
“Excuse me?”
“Have a carrot! Ho, ho, ho!”
*grumbling* “I’ll give you a carrot.”

Photobucket
“Look! I’m Lassie and I think I’m sooooo awesome. I’m so awesome I fart glitter! Hehehee!”
“SHUT UP.”
“YOU shut up, Lassie!”
“Quiet down!”
“Sorry Santa.”

This is not the last time you will see these two in antlers.
As long as I have treats, they’ll wear them. 😉
Pepper on the other hand…

Photobucket
“Mom, if you happen to see this, please, please, please,”

Photobucket
“Never send me to stay with these people ever, ever, again! They’re all mad!”

Have a biscuit!
And a lovely weekend!

Halloween Fun

One morning I got this crazy— or adorable, whichever— idea.
I thought to myself, “I should take the dogs and some Halloween costumes outside and do a little photo shoot.”
The dogs did not think this was such a great idea, until I whipped out the chicken, then they saw the true brilliance of it.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Will wear crazy costumes for chicken!

Petal is a lady bug princess or something.
Lassie is a pirate.
And they both love chicken.
A lot. 😉

He’s cooler than Captain Jack Sparrow.

She’s a bigger nuisance than your average housefly.

Together they are… um… the C.C.C!

Have a lovely weekend!

Kitty? Or extremely soft pillow?

Petal has a thing for strange sleeping places. You’ll know exactly what I’m talking about if you take a look at this post here.
She— apparently— also enjoys resting her head on unique… pillows…

“This kitty is my pillow.”

You’re a sweet and patient kitty, Harriet. I bet you stayed toasty warm.
And you’re a goofy dog, Petal.
Though I can’t say I blame you, she is one super soft kitty. If she would allow it, I would probably rest my face on her, too.

Have a lovely and relaxing weekend everyone!

Veggie (and fruit!) smoothie!

Photobucket

This morning I made a veggie (and apple) smoothie to mix into Lassie’s and Petal’s food.
I think they enjoyed it.

They had the following:

Photobucket
  • Apples are a good source of vitamins A and C and dietary fiber, and more.
  • Carrots are an excellent source of beta-carotene, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, and more.
  • Broccoli is a powerful antioxidant, supports bone health, prevents cancer, and more.
  • Cauliflower is a good source of vitamins C and A, fiber, calcium, potassium, and more.
  • Green Beans are a rich source of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals. A small amount can make a great addition to an overweight dog’s diet as they’ll make your dog feel fuller. (No, neither Lassie nor Petal are overweight, but they still enjoy the benefits of green beans occasionally).
  • Squash provides potassium (which may be beneficial in supporting kidney health and may reduce the risk of heart failure), vitamin A, calcium and more.
  • Zucchini offers vitamins C and B complex, magnesium, and more.
I use to just toss a few or just one of these veggies into their bowl. Then I watched with a frown as they (okay, Lassie; Petal actually enjoys fruits and veggies) picked around it.
Then one day I was surfing the internet and read, many times, that it was recommended that you puree or steam the vegetables before serving them to your dog, because they absorb and digest them better that way.
I had noticed that certain vegetables (carrots especially) came out the same way they went in, so steaming or pureeing them might be worth a try, and since Lassie was picking around his veggies, I went with pureeing them.
Good luck picking around that mush, bud!
So now I run them through the Magic Bullet and pulverize them into mush.
Lassie likes them much better this way.
He’s always been a fan of baby food.

Photobucket
Load ’em up in the bullet (with plenty of water).

Photobucket
And mash them up!

Photobucket

I split this amount up to make three days worth (for each of them), I could’ve split it up for four days had I realized sooner just how much it had made, but oh well.

They gobbled it all up and nothing was picked around or spat out onto the floor.

Photobucket

This veggie and apple smoothie would also make a great Kong stuffer or frozen treats.
But remember 3 things,
1 there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
2 while many fruits and vegetables are safe to give to your dog, some may not be (onions and grapes, for example) and some should only be given in moderate amounts occasionally.
3 keep in mind that if your dog has never had any of these vegetables before, it may cause them an upset stomach if you try feeding them all these new things at once. My dogs have enjoyed all of the veggies (and apples) pictured above over the years, so they were fine eating them all at once. Normally I only give them 1-4 different vegetables and fruits at a time, but every now and then I like to mix it up and give them a little of (almost) everything we have on hand.

Enjoy! Or rather, let your dogs enjoy!
Though, I guess you could eat it too, if you wanted.
Not me, though, I prefer to chew on my veggies. Haha.

Have a great weekend everyone!

You dirty, dirty dog

Following a few certain posts, which can be found here, and here, and over here, Lassie felt that I should make something perfectly clear.
While I may allude, here on the blog, to Lassie being a neat-freak who avoids mud as much as humanly dogly possible, he does— supposedly— enjoy getting dirty.
He does— according to him— enjoy the mud.
To some extent.
Now he’s sure you won’t believe him (I don’t believe him myself), which is why he has provided photographic evidence.

Warning: this may come as a great shock to all.

Photobucket
GASP!
IS THAT MUD?!
ON YOUR NOSE?!
THE HORROR!
THE SCANDAL!
Do you have any idea how long it will take me to wash that mud off your nose?!
(Stop your giggling, Petal! He tried and that’s all that matters.)

Was my reaction dramatic enough for you, Lass?
Yes?
Alright. Good.
Guess we’re done here.

Remember, act scandalized.
😉

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kicking up dirt

I think I may have mentioned this before, but
have you ever had one of those moments where you think,
“Man, I wish I was a dog, so I could run around like this,”
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Or am I just crazy?
(naw, you don’t need to answer that. ;))
Because I find myself envying admiring their powerful four legs often.
Admiring the graceful way they move.
Until they face-plant it in the mud.
Then I don’t feel so jealous anymore.

Happy Saturday, everyone! :)
Have a lovely weekend!
